In one of these studies, scientists exposed Vero cells with an EMF of 100 Hz for 45 minutes. They measured DNA damage within 48 hours of exposure to determine whether the exposure affected DNA integrity.

Muscle tissue is more able to absorb field radiation than most tissues and transforms it into heat more effectively. Usually the penetration depth that RFEMF has is measured in millimeters (mm). Despite these findings, RF EMF has no clear mechanism to disrupt the BBB. Research suggests that EMF exposure can increase erythrocyte membrane permeability, which could alter the BBB and also increase calcium ion efflux. Moreover, the presence of a 99mTc-MIBI radiotracer in the brain is also connected to increasing the permeability of the BBB.
